Gen Z Has Officially Cost The Alcohol Industry $830 Billion In 4 Years
Young adults are changing the way they celebrate, socialize, and spend their money, and the alcohol industry is feeling the impact. A growing number of people are choosing to drink less, with Gen Z playing a major role in the shift away from traditional alcohol habits.
The world’s largest beer, wine, and spirits companies have lost around $830 billion in combined market value over the past four years, marking a major decline from their peak in 2021. Gallup reported that alcohol consumption among U.S. adults dropped to 54%, the lowest level recorded since tracking began in 1939.
The change has pushed major alcohol companies to chase the growing demand for nonalcoholic options. Sales for alcohol free drinks jumped 30% in the past year as younger consumers show that skipping alcohol does not mean skipping the experience. The industry is learning that the next generation wants more choices.
