Everyone has that one superhero character they never expected to see on the big screen again, and Ghost Rider is making a major comeback. Ryan Gosling is taking on the role of the supernatural Marvel character in a new standalone movie set to arrive in 2028.

Marvel Studios announced Gosling’s casting at San Diego Comic Con, with Shawn Levy directing the film and Jonathan Tropper writing the script. Gosling will become the second actor to play Ghost Rider in a live action movie after Nicolas Cage portrayed Johnny Blaze in two films.

Seeing Gosling trade in his usual roles for a flaming skull and motorcycle is going to be one of Marvel’s biggest surprises yet. Fans now have a few years to find out what version of Ghost Rider he will bring to life.
