Spain Have Officially Won The 2026 World Cup Defeating Argentina

Winning a World Cup is hard. Beating Lionel Messi and the defending champions on the biggest stage in soccer is even harder, and Spain found a way to do it after a relentless performance that ended with the trophy heading back home.

Spain defeated Argentina 1 to 0 after extra time, with Ferran Torres scoring the winning goal in the 106th minute. The victory gave Spain its second men's World Cup title and ended Argentina's bid to become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to win back to back World Cups.

The scoreline barely showed how much Spain controlled the match. Argentina managed only two shots and none were on target, while Spain finished with 20 attempts and forced Emiliano Martínez to make a World Cup final record 11 saves before Torres finally broke through.
For Messi, it was a heartbreaking finish to what could be his final World Cup appearance. For Spain, it felt like the start of another era after lifting the biggest trophy in the sport once again.
