The Total Cost Of Rescuing Matt Damon In Movies Is Over $600 Million
Getting stranded is bad. Becoming the internet's unofficial champion of expensive rescue missions is a whole different level.
A long running online meme claims it would have cost more than $600 million to save Matt Damon if the events of his movies happened in real life. The joke comes from a string of roles where he ends up lost, trapped, or abandoned in dangerous places. In Saving Private Ryan, soldiers are sent deep into combat to find him. In The Martian, a massive space mission is launched to bring him home from Mars. In Interstellar, another costly mission is needed after his character becomes stranded on a distant world.
The meme has picked up steam again with Damon starring in The Odyssey, leading fans to joke that somebody is once again going to have to spend a fortune getting him back. At this point, if Matt Damon disappears in a movie, people start wondering what the rescue bill will be before the credits even roll.
